Bias in Hiring 101

The ReadySet Bias in Hiring 101 workshop provides an introduction to how to spot and interrupt bias in the hiring process. In this session, participants will learn foundational DEI knowledge and explore historical and systemic inequality that have led to barriers to hiring candidates from underrepresented groups.

Participants will be given concrete tools to recognize common biases that can show up during hiring and interview processes. This workshop empowers hiring teams to reconsider harmful narratives surrounding inclusive hiring to create more equitable processes.

Learning Outcomes

  • Awareness of foundational DEI terminology as it relates to hiring

  • Understanding of obstacles and barriers to diverse, equitable, & inclusive hiring

  • Skills for how to interrupt biases in order to support equitable & inclusive hiring processes

  • An exploration of the representation gap and narratives surrounding the pipeline

  • How power and privilege impacts the hiring process

  • How to identify common workplace biases including affinity, confirmation, leniency and ‘prove it again’ bias

Methodology

Learning sessions are highly interactive and participatory to encourage active learning and engagement with the material. Workshops will likely include lecture presentation, large group discussion and scenario discussion facilitated through virtual tools.
