Disability Inclusion at Work

This interactive workshop offers a high-level foundation of disability accommodations & access in the workplace and equips teams with the tools to better support employees across different disabled experiences, including neurodiversity and mental health conditions. Participants will better grasp the manifestations of ableism and learn practical and applicable frameworks for addressing disability-related bias in the workplace and beyond through the lens of the social model of disability and universal design.

  • The social vs. medical model of disability 

  • A high-level foundation of disability accommodations & access

  • Biocultural diversity and the argument for the successful thriving of disabled people

Content May Include

  • Definitions of disability

  • A high-level overview of different disabled experiences, including neurodiversity and mental health conditions

  • Applicable discussions scenarios of disability in the workplace

  • A practical compare and contrast for the medical model vs. the social model of disability

  • A video and discussion on disabled people “not being your inspiration”

  • A visualization of disability equity and foundational knowledge around universal design

  • More advanced modules may include: Disability allyship, Disability justice

Methodology

Learning sessions are highly interactive and participatory to encourage active learning and engagement with the material. Workshops will likely include lecture presentation, large group discussion and scenario discussion facilitated through virtual tools.
